This year marks the eleventh edition of the Torino Jazz Festival, and the program is as rich and sprawling as ever. The excitement kicks off on April 22 and runs for nine days through April 30.
Local fans and visitors can look forward to an array of concerts, jam sessions and a whole lot more, in the city’s most prestigious jazz venues – including the clubs that host performances of this great music all year round. The main stages will be featuring appearances by Italian and international stars. There will be all-new, exclusive productions by artists of stature on the world scene today. Concert-goers will be treated to an amazing range of jazz styles and tastes, and get to see big-name players and composers from the annals of jazz history, like Kenny Barron and Steve Coleman, as well as Italian jazz artists of international renown, like Roberto Ottaviano, Cristina Zavalloni and Furio Di Castri, plus some of the world’s leading innovators today, including Craig Taborn, Paal Nilssen-Love, Eve Risser, Sarathy Korwar, Federica Michisanti with special guest Louis Sclavis, Hamid Drake and Shabaka Hutchings.
We’ll also be bringing you performances by two of Italy’s best-loved artists, Peppe Servillo and Stefano Bollani. On April 30, the final day of the festival, TJF celebrates International Jazz Day with a slate of events put together to mark this momentous occasion. For hard-core jazz lovers, the fifteen clubs involved in the festival, located throughout the greater Torino metropolitan area, will be hosting more than thirty shows with free admission. This is where Torino’s jazz musicians will be flaunting their chops with artists from Italy and the world over. From gypsy jazz to electronic, from swing to mainstream, experimentation and beyond, TJF’s club section serves up the entire rainbow of jazz sounds.
Don’t forget the other free TJF events, including marching bands along the city’s streets and in open-air markets, talk sessions and conferences, interviews, book presentations, jazz blitzes around town and special projects.
