Gavin Bryars launched his career in music as a jazz bassist in the 1960s, when he played alongside improvisors like Derek Bailey and Tony Oxley. His encounter with John Cage marked Bryars’ plunge into 1970s minimalism. His 1972 recording Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet proved seminal, and he’ll be playing it in Torino with an all-new arrangement. His set list includes numbers that provide a compelling overview of Bryars’ works, stretching from his primitive love for jazz, as seen in Dancing With Pannonica (2012), to his most recent high-intensity compositions. Also look forward to hearing selections from By The Vaar (1987), After The Requiem (1990), and Ramble On Cortona (2010).
