Ståle Storløkken, organ

After Elephant9, here’s another side of Ståle Storløkken’s artistic personality, which this time sees the musician at the liturgical organ. ACtually, his first approach to keyboards came about thanks to the church organist in his hometown, Dovre, in Norway. Storløkken’s compositions for liturgical organ are a combination of classicism and minimalism. Of course, improvisation remains central, as does the inspiration that a restless Storløkken seeks in a vast array of genres, from the music of folklore to Olivier Messiaen, all the way to experimentation with sound art. For BBC journalist Peter Marsh, Storløkken is the missing link between Brian Eno and Herbie Hancock.
