Enrico Pieranunzi, piano
Ares Tavolazzi, bass
Enzo Zirilli, drums

“This is a trio full of Zs. We even considered calling ourselves the Zeta Trio, but then decided to go with our last names. We started working together when drummer Enzo Zirilli invited me to do some shows in Torino a few years back, along with Ares Tavolazzi on bass. I knew who Ares was because he’d played in Area, and they’d played with Massimo Urbani, with whom I often played. I agreed to do the gigs in Torino, and they were really cool. Enzo’s drumming is both essential and creative at the same time. Ares adds his musicality, swing, his sense of melody. I’d say we’re an ‘open’ trio, in that we play my tunes, standards, melodic pop, and improv. I’d really like to underscore the ‘free’ in the freestyle aspect, because we really do feel free when we’re playing together. We each contribute something different, we’re free to express ourselves with one another. I think that’s what makes it work. Or maybe it’s all these Zs?” (Enrico Pieranunzi)
