It’s been over thirty years since Geoff Dyer’s But Beautiful was first published in 1991, and to this day it is considered one of the most highly acclaimed literary works dedicated to jazz. Since then, Dyer has established himself as a major force in contemporary world literature. Here’s a band that’s been put together especially for this performance. Each musician portrays one of the titans of jazz, as told by Dyer. Memories of Lester Young, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Chet Baker and Duke Ellington come to life on stage, in concert. With special thanks to readings by Italian singer, composer and actor Peppe Servillo.
