This project was born during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the World Music Festival of Oslo asked Nilssen-Love to form a band made up exclusively of Norway residents. He chose a highly heterogeneous group of individuals whose backgrounds range from world music to classical, contemporary, jazz, free, noise, pop and beyond. Nilssen-Love, a star in today’s richly-laden Northern European jazz scene and one of the most creative drummers to be found in Europe right now, took inspiration from the sounds of Ethiopia, Mali, Senegal and Brazil to forge his compositions created especially for this band. They’re maplike in structure, in the key of freedom. On stage, the goal of the musicians is to surprise one another, even before amazing audiences. A musical circus. Outrageous. Exhilarating. Poetic.
