Jimi Tenor is an eclectic artist. The Finnish composer and multi-instrumentalist plays saxophones, flutes, keyboards, as well as instruments he invents himself. He’s also a photographer, filmmaker and fashion designer. Tenor constantly updates the ingredients he uses, mixing up techno-jazz from the early days of electronic music, with pop nuances on later records, and even Afrobeat. In Finland, UMO is an institution. Since 1975 they’ve released some sixty albums. It has become a kind of national jazz orchestra and collaborates with over one hundred artists every year. Their repertoire is varied and covers a lot of ground. Whenever UMO and Tenor get together, something extraordinary is bound to happen. The album Terra Exotica was released in late 2021, and is a blend Tenor’s passions for swing, blues, old Hollywood sounds, Japanese soundtracks, exoticism, Sun Ra, and the Egyptian jazz of Salah Ragab.
