Singer, actress, dubber, director, Laura Betti was a woman with a powerful personality. Eclectic, impassioned, impossible to categorize. She was also considered to be Pier Paolo Pasolini’s muse. After his death, she worked to preserve the filmmaker and author’s memory. This performance features tales from their heyday and one of the hottest vocalists in Italy today, Cristina Zavalloni. She and her band serve up a cavalcade of pieces from the Laura Betti songbook. The lyrics come notably from the pens of authors such as Pasolini, Alberto Arbasino and Franco Fortini, and Italian musicians the likes of Piero Umiliani, Piero Piccioni, Fiorenzo Carpi, Domenico Modugno, not to mention Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht. All against a backdrop of stunning photos from the Betti archive, including shots by Angelo Novi from the set of the Pasolini film Teorema.
