ARTO TUNÇBOYACIYAN / SFOM QUARTET

Arto Tuncboyacyan, vocals, percussion
Pietro Ballestrero, electric and acoustic guitars
Marco Giovinazzo, percussion
Alessandro Maiorino, double bass, electric bass
Manuel Pramotton, tenor and soprano saxophones

A Torino Jazz Festival Production

This project was born out of an idea by bassist Alessandro Maiorino, following a seminar given by the Armenian-Turk singer and percussionist at the SFOM school in Aosta, Italy, in 2018, which Maiorino attended. This group’s sound is the result of a shared vision of music as a vehicle for spreading the culture of peace and tolerance throughout the world.
Their repertoire combines original compositions with a blend of avant-folk and contemporary jazz, as Tunçboyacıyan’s bewitching vocal melodies meld with the musicians’ own melodic and rhythmic schemes. Musical undulation where melancholy peaks are offset by boundless, lacerating energy, where polyrhythmic weaves are placated by landscapes of absolute peace.

For the Torino Jazz Festival, the two American stars embark on an all-new project with top-notch Torino-based talent, pianist Fabio Giachino and his trio.
